EXAMINATION  30 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 45 minutes.  A mark of 70% required to pass.

Spirit Production General main categories of spirits available and their production processes pre-distillation, distillation and post distillation.

Raw Materials Fruit, vegetable, grain

Spirits by Style Main factors that affect the style and characteristics of spirits

Service and Marketing of Spirits Identifying the different ways that spirits can be marketed and the different service of spirits

Main Spirit Categories Vodka, Rum, Tequila, Whisk(e)y, Gin, Cognac, Liqueurs

Study Materials Students will receive the Foundation Certificate Study Guide

Duration of the Course Daytime – 1 day inclusive of examinationEvening – 6.45pm – 9.30pm over 2 consecutive evenings

Certification All students who pass will be issued with a certificate suitable for framing and a lapel pin

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q.  How much prior knowledge of spirits should I have before attending this course?

A.  None at all.  This course has been devised for individuals with an aptitude to learn rather than a prior knowledge of wine.

Q.  What is the recommended self study time for this programme?

A.  The exam takes place at the end of the day session, therefore, no self study time is required unless of course it whet’s your appetite and you decide to continue your studies and join the Level 2 Award in Wines and Spirits.
